A Semester of Cyberporn

         When I first registered for cyber porn and society I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the course. The reason I chose this course was because it was online and it seemed interesting. I originally believed that all we would be doing is watching and analyzing pornography, which seemed fairly easy. I am aware now that I was very wrong. Although this course turned out much different than I expected, it was more interesting than I thought it would be. I really liked how we talked about current issues surrounding pornography in this day and age. I also liked the blogging part of the course because it allowed me to share my opinions on certain topics in this course, and also allowed me to read other peoples’ thoughts.

 

            Throughout the semester, I have learned a lot of stuff that I was not aware of before I took this course. The topics in this course I learned about that I was unaware of were how popular the sex slaves industry is, when early pornographic films came about such as “Deep Throat”, how much money is involved in the pornography industry, and many more. It was interesting to learn how popular pornography is, and how much it has grown since the internet was invented. The word pornography has also gained a much more broad definition to me after this class. When thinking about the term pornography before this class I basically just thought about videos, magazines, and internet sites. After taking this class though, the term pornography has gained more definitions such as, prostitution, strip clubs, sex slaves, freedom of speech, and technology. I have gained much more respect for the pornography industry after taking this class due to its popularity. I realize that the pornography industry has its faults as many things do, such as child pornography and the sex slave industry, but I believe the pornography industry will continue to grow and become more popular in the future than it has ever been. Overall my experience from this course has been positive and I would definitely take it again if I had the chance.
